Lambeth Conference 2008

This summer the Lambeth Conference will take place June 16th through August 3rd in England. Connecticut's three bishop's will be attending.
Lambeth Conference 2008
Equipping Bishops to Fulfil Their Leadership Role in God's Mission.

Conference aims - that all delegates will:

  • be restored and refreshed spiritually
  • gain deeper knowledge of each other
  • become more aware of the spiritual and physical resources God has given them to meet missionary challenges in different parts of the world
  • develop greater understanding and appreciation of life together in the Anglican Communion address conflict
  • discover a new level of trust in common service to God
  • gain greater understanding of the contribution Anglicanism can make to the worldwide church and the world

These will be fulfilled by delegates spending time together: in spiritual reflection, learning, sharing experiences and discerning their particular role in God's mission for the world.

More information can be found regarding the Lambeth Conference in the bulletin inserts on Episcopal Life Online. Printed versions of the bulletins inserts will also be available in the back of the church as they are made available on the Episcopal Life Online website.

Parish Announcements

St. Michael's Tours

St. Michael’s Parish will commence its popular church tours on Saturday, May 3rd, from 12pm-2pm. Tours will be held each Saturday through September. The tours originated in participation with the annual Litchfield House Tour, since St. Michael’s is listed as a point of interest . Our beautiful stone Gothic miniature cathedral has long welcomed visitors from around the globe.

A brief history of the church, combined with numbered guides, also allows visitors to self-guide if they wish. The Episcopal church in Litchfield dates back to 1745 and the current building was built in 1921. Some of the highlights of the tour include our magnificent Tiffany stained-glass windows, chestnut and oak handcarvings, the 2221-pipe organ and the relic from the cathedral in Lichfield, England, which is the namesake of Litchfield.

Twelve art history students from Wamogo High School received a special pre-opening tour on April 9. The students, all seniors who are studying Gothic architecture and preparing their college portfolios, were accompanied by art teachers Laurie Sweet and Wendy Costa.

Caritas

Caritas provides meals for parishioners in times of illness, need or stress.  We provide rides for those who are unable to drive themselves to doctors appointments. We make visits to the home bound and assist the elderly. Caritas is a network of friends helping friends.  Please consider cooking a few meals, as we need to replenish our supply of premade meals. If you would like to join this network, or you are in need of services provided by Caritas, please contact Peggy Sullivan at 567-5721 or gstc@optonline.net.

All Parish Member's updated contact information is needed for the upcoming publication of St Michael's Parish Directory. Click on this link and fill in the form as you wish your information to appear in St Michael’s Parish Directory 2008. The Parish Directory will be published in August 2008. There are two new fields of information that will be included on this year’s directory: cell phone number and email address. Both of these fields are optional. Forms need to be received no later than July 14th, 2008. Paper forms will be sent with the July edition of the Lychgate. They can also be picked up at the Parish Office during office hours.
If no information is received from a Parish Member by July 14th, 2008 then the information we have in our database from the previous directory will be used. Your information will only be given to other members of the Parish ... not the General Public!

Fete & Faire Tag Sale September 27th

This is not our usual tag sale! Chris Clarke and her crew will be managing a small “elegant elephant” tag sale at this year’s Fete & Faire on Saturday, September 27th.
If you have inherited lovely items that don’t coordinate with your lovely rooms, perhaps you would like to donate them to the tag sale.
If you have new-in-the-box gifts that didn’t tickle your fancy, or framed art that doesn’t match the new paint color, or collectibles that you no longer collect, perhaps you would consider donating them as well.
If your donated items are lightweight and/or fragile, please bring them to the church during office hours. If they are well-packed and protected, please leave them in the church garage which is the separate building to the right of the carriage house (Ernie’s old apartment). Please attach a description of the contents, your name and contact number.
Thank you for your generosity. The Fete & Faire is our biggest outreach fundraiser and we appreciate your support.
